These rules are disclosed to clarify the various responsibilities of all community members here on SymphonyShare. They shall be adhered to by everyone to ensure that our board runs smoothly and provides a fun and productive experience for all of our community members and visitors.
-
- Priority will be given to new members who are recommended by a standing and contributing member of the group.
- New members must make a thread introducing themselves to the group within 3 days of joining. Please talk about your musical tastes, reasons for wanting to join, etc. Something more meaningful than just "Hi, I'm new." (If a new member isn't a proficient English speaker, please let the moderator know so that he may relax the rules accordingly.)
- New members must post an original lossless (i.e. FLAC, WAV, etc.) rip of an acceptable recording within 30 days of joining.
- Failure of new members to comply to rules 2 and 3 will result in a warning.
- Recordings that are permitted to be shared here are:
- Radio broadcasts.
- Commercial recordings which are out of print (i.e. no longer available directly from the artist/label themselves).
- Non-commercial recordings (e.g. promotional CDs/LPs, private press recordings which were not originally intended for sale, etc).
- CDs sold and distributed exclusively in Japan, South Korea or any other region outside the US, Canada, UK, and EU.
- Personal transfers of LPs and cassettes.
- Recordings which are only available commercially as lossy (i.e. mp3) downloads.
- Recordings NOT permitted to be shared are:
- Any recording which remains commercially available in the US, Canada, UK, and EU directly from the artist/label themselves.
- Any recording which is available commercially as a lossless download.
- Any recording available as a pressed-on-demand CD-R (e.g. Arkiv CD, Presto CD, etc).
- Sharing links of files hosted on our server outside of the group will result in an automatic ban. Exceptions are allowed if these are your own shares hosted on an outside file locker. (However, sharing our server links, including of your own files, outside of the group is still prohibited.)
- Uploaded recordings must be hosted at file lockers which put no restrictions on free users, namely: Mega, Mediafire, WeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
- Recordings may also be hosted on our group server, but please be mindful of file size and potential traffic. No videos are permitted to be uploaded to our server, but they may be uploaded to the file locker of your choice. Our server is generously sustained by the donations of our members, but as much as possible ought to be treated as a back-up. If you have questions about what is permitted to be uploaded on the server, please feel free to contact the moderator.
- No passwords on shared files. Any files requiring passwords to unzip will be removed and the uploader warned.
- Please be courteous to fellow members. Neither personal attacks nor remarks intimating that a member's like of a controversial performer is reflective of their own character will be tolerated. Members breaking this rule will be disciplined and their offending post(s) removed.
- Neither discussion of controversial extra-musical subjects nor on the possibly controversial personal doings of classical music artists will be tolerated. Members breaking this rule will be disciplined and their offending post(s) removed.
- Requests are permitted, but please contribute to the group in some meaningful way, be it through shared recordings, commentary, scholarship, etc. Requests from members who do not contribute to the group tend to be ignored.
- Do not pester members off-group with requests unless you know them.
- Confidentiality: It is assumed that whatever information you have disclosed in your introductory post is true. It is also assumed that you have made the disclosure of your personal details under the premise that it will be known to only the members of the group. Therefore, it is FORBIDDEN to use the personal information disclosed in introductory posts against the member in question. Please respect the privacy of others. This includes, but is not limited to: e-mail addresses, names, occupations, and ages. Do not disclose members' personal information to outsiders. Members caught doing otherwise will be banned.
- Bans are final and non-negotiable. Banned members are neither permitted to reapply for membership nor are they permitted to reapply using different e-mails. Deceit will result in a ban.
